Blog#3: Bunkamura The Museum(Kanae)

I would like to introduce Bunkamura The Museum. This museum in Shibuya. I visited there last September. I like this museum. Because various exhibition is held from famous things to unknown things.
I saw exhibition of Repin there. Repin is a Russian painter in the 19th century. He painted many historical pictures, genre pictures, portraits etc from a realistic viewpoint. When I saw his works in this exhibition, I was very impressed. Because people and things painted there looked as if be living!

Rest-Portrait of Vera Repina
This picture is one of that exhibition's special-feature pictures.
This woman is Repin's wife. I love this picture's warm atmosphere.

This picture is based on a historical fact Russian Emperor IvanIV beated his son to death.
In the actual object, IvanIV's eyes are very powerful. I want you to see the actual object.

This museum's HP is there. And this picture is Bunkamura The Museum.

I recommend this museum to you. Because we can encounter various wounderful artworks in various exhibition of this museum. In addition, because of this museum is near from Shibuya station, we can visit there easy.

I often go to museums and art museums. I went to Tokyo National Museum (Tokyo Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan), National Museum of Nature and Science (Kokuritsu Kagaku Hakubutsukan), National Museum of Western Art (Kokuritsu Seiyo Hakubutsukan), and more this year.
I like  especially National Musueum of Nature and Science. I have been there many times since I was child. I  like to see fossils of dinosaurs and stuffed specimen of creatures in the museums. I think National Museum of Nature and Science is the real museum in Japan because there are so many, many things exciting us. This is the site of this museum.

Tyranosaurus,"Stan"

I will go to this museum more times this year, and I will go to other museums, too. I like to visit various museums, every visiting is different and so fun. In the world, there are many museums, so I  will never finish visiting museums. I want to go to Smithsonian Museum (Washington, D. C.) and British Museum (London) some day!

Blog#3: The museum I recommend(Mamiko)

The museum I introduce you is Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography in ebisu. I saw “World Press Photo 13” when I went there. I am interested in the press. It is a reason I chose this one.

Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography

The exhibition has the photos which tell us the documentaries and the press in the world. This exhibition is taken place every year. Before it begins, the contest to rank collected photos is taken place. This contest collected 103,481 of pictures from professional photographers this year. And we can see 160 pictures from them. There are 9 categories; general news, sports action, sports feature, contemporary issues, spot news, dairy life, portraits, arts and performance and nature. The greatest photo is prized as “the World Press Photo Prize of the year”. The person prized the World Press Photo this year was Paul Hansen who took “Gaza City, Palestinian Territories”(look at the below photo). So this exhibition is held in about 100 places all over the world and has about two millions people through a year.

Gaza City, Palestinian Territories

I thought that the power of photos were really wonderful when I was there. Though I don’t know about world press well, such scenes exist somewhere in the world. That inspired me. I was too lazy to know the news. Moreover this exhibition shows not only the facts that happened in the past but also a clue that we think about the problem or chances we think something to remember.

And I like visiting museums. I usually don’t go to museums, but I enjoyed seeing different arts this time. So I want to try another museum! There are a lot of something new for me in museums.

Thank you for reading!

Blog#3:The National Art Center (Natsumi)

I went to The National Art Center where is in Roppingi. There has some kinds which many works are displayed, for example, Japanese-style painting, calligraphy…etc. They were collected from many kinds of places where are regardless of internal or foreign.
This museum's site is here.  And it's picture. ↓

I have been to there twice.
First, 『400 years of  European Masterpieces from the State Hermitage Museum』.I went to this in July last year. The features of the exhibit are possessed by Hermitage which is the national museum of Russia in Saint Petersburg. There were many works of many famous painter, for example, Leonardo da vinci, Rembrandt...etc. I liked 《Port of Marseilles》 painted by Paul Signac. How to paint this was pointillism. This skill has many small dots whose colors are different one another. I felt it very beautiful because many dots have pastel and clear color gathered. Therefore, I chose it as the subject of the report which was a homework of summer vacation in last year.

Second,『Masterworks from the Collections of the prince of Liechtenstein』. I went to this in November last year. The features of the exhibit were Weastern art collections which the marquis of Liechtenstein who was the chief of state collected. The number of them was 139. I hearded that the first exhibition of them in Japan. There were many pictures painted by famous painters, for example, Raffaellp, Rembrandt, Rubens,... etc. I was fascinated with a dessing table which carved with complicated relief and brilliant ornaments.

The National Art Center opened in 2007 so the inside of it is very beautiful. It has big windows so gets a lot of sunshine and a beautiful landscape of surroundings. Thw outside of it seems modern. We can go there easily because it is directly connected with Nogizaka Station. And we can enjoy not only in it but also near commercial area, for example, Tokyo Midtown and Roppongi Hills.

I recommend you to go there because there holds many exhibitions worthy of watching and has many kinds of exhibitions so they are interesting.

In Hiroshima museum, there are masterpieces of world wide famous painter. For example, Millet and Manet, Monet, Renoir and so on. In these, The most favorite painter is Renoir. His paintings make me relaxed because these are painted softly. He painted many famous paintings. Do you know "Jugement de Pâris" and "Place de la Trinité, Paris"? Hiroshima museum has these his paintings. I think that one of the most famous paintings of Renoir is "Bal du Moulin de la Galette". This painting is displayed at Orsay museum. I want to see it someday.
In the world, there are many masterpieces. If these paintings came to Japan, I would want to see its.

Blog#2: About Thailand (Mamiko)

Lately I have been studying Thai. Because I am going to go to Thailand next year. The language used in Thailand is not English. Thai is this. It looks difficult, doesn't it? Surely we don't have any chance to see it in Japan. So I can't read it well yet. But the grammer is like English. I think its grammer is simpler than English. Pronunciation is complicating. Some words have several meanings like Chinese. Japanese have few words like that. So when I study Thai, letters and pronunciation are important.
This is first time to learn other language except English for me. And I don't know how to study. Now I'm using a text book with CD. Once a week a thai friend teaches me thai. I need to study hard. If you have some advice to learn other language, please tell me!
Finally, this picture was taken at the river kwai where has relationship with Japan. If you want to know in detail, check the movie "The bridge on the river kwai". I'm sorry I haven't watched it yet. I will try soon also!

Blog#2: There is a concert soon(Kanae)

Lately, I have been practicing the oboe every day for Mejiro Musical Festival on Sunday June 9. I will play "The Sound of Music Selections for Orchestra" then. Please watch this video. This is that music.

And I bought two reeds of oboe for this concert. Oboe's reed is expensive. These reeds cost 4,830 yen in all.

My reed case and new reeds.

Whenever I get reeds, I name those. By naming reeds, I can understand respective features of reeds (for example, this reed is off pitch, that reed has mild tone, etc). So I named these new reeds "Alexios" and "Basileios" from the right. Alexios's feature is hard tone. So I probably will not use this reed on the concert. I don't use Basileios yet. I'm looking for using this reed on today's practice.
"The Sound of Music Selections for Orchestra" is very difficult for me. But I like this music and I like playing the oboe. So I will do my best.

Blog #2: Mango galette (Natsumi)

Last Saturday, I and my mother went a restaurant near my home to eat dinner then mango galette as dessert.

Agalette is a French dessert. It's round and baked thiner than a crape. Apart from a crepe, only one side baked. In many case, buckwheat is used. Originally, a galette had been cooked by many farmers in Bretagne. The ways we eat a galette are that we put cheese and salad on it as meal or put fresh cream, ice cream and some fruits on it as dessert. This introduces other kinds of galettes and how to make them.
This season is the best for mangoes. This is why I wanted to eat this galette. I like mangoes because of their vivid yellow and it's pulp is very beautiful and tender and very delicious. Besides, it smells sweet.
A mango is one of the most delicious three fruits of the world: others are mangosteen and cherimola. However, I've never eaten them.
Mangoes are cultivated in Japan, for example,Okinawa, Miyazaki, Kagoshima. And imports which are imported from Mexico, Philippine, Thai and Taiwan are many.

In addition to cut mangoes, cut bananas and fresh cream and vanilla ice cream and cornflakes were put on thi galette. Sause which was put on it tasted mango.

This dessert was very delicious and made me want to eat it again.

Blog#2: At that time of last year (shinji)

I went to the USA last year. I belong to Men's lacrosse club. In other words, I went to the state of North Carolina to play lacrosse.
I went there with two teammates. Before we went to the state of North Carolina, we went sightseeing at New York City. In New York City, we went to empire state building, Central park, the Statue of Liberty and shopping mall of New York City, for example "Abercrombie and Fitch" and "Hollister" and so on. My most impressive memory of these live in New York City is overdemand of money!!
When we have been going to the Statue of Liberty, a man with figure of the Statue of Liberty said" Hey!! take pictures with me!!" . we took pictures with him pleasantly.  Before taking pictures, he said"20$". We hesitated to pay it but he was insistent. We paid... this is the most impressive memory.
this is an expensive picture.

In the state of North Carolina,  we participated in lacrosse camp of university of north carolina and played lacrosse. this is site we participated in. we could make friends with participating teammates of the lacrosse camp.
I could be relieved because teammates were so kindness and friendly. Everyday, we played lacrosse all day long. we could enjoy playing lacrosse but I was tired.
In this year,  junior teammates of Gakushuin men's lacrosse club will participate in this camp. I spent precious time!! I do want them to experience important things for them life. If I had a chance to go there, I would want to go.
we took a picture with coaches of this camp
